Homeopathic Definition

Finding the right homeopathy definition on the internet which is free from any biased commentary or opinion is not an easy task. We searched the web and found a number of definitions of homeopathy below that we believe represent its true meaning and philosophy.
The New Zealand and Australian Oxford Dictionaries
Homeopathy definition – the treatment of disease by minute doses of drugs that in a healthy person would produce symptoms of the disease.
Oxford Dictionary of English
Homeopathy definition – a system of complementary medicine in which ailments are treated by minute doses of natural substances that in larger amounts would produce symptoms of the ailment.
A Dictionary of Psychology
Homeopathy definition – An unconventional or alternative form of drug therapy for physical and mental disorders devised by the German physician Christian Samuel Hahnemann (1755–1843).

Based on the dictum of the Greek father of medicine Hippocrates (?460–?377 bc) that ‘like cures like’ (similia similibus curantur), in which a drug that produces a particular pattern of symptoms in a healthy person is used in an extremely dilute form to treat disorders characterised by similar symptoms.

Successive dilutions of the drug produce a solution containing virtually no molecules of the original active substance but are believed to have therapeutic properties none the less.
